Detailed Description

Exclusive Tractrix® Horns have always been the key component of this critically acclaimed series. In the RF-83, this technology has been refined to include improved throat geometry for a more genuine, lifelike sound. Behind the horn lies a professional-grade 1.25-inch titanium diaphragm compression driver to provide a unique combination of precision, clarity and effortless power.

Featuring an all-new driver layout, the RF-83 employs triple 8-inch high-output woofers with large motor structures for a solid bass foundation and greater control, output and power handling. These Cerametallic™ woofers with inverted copper dust caps exhibit a very high stiffness-to-mass ratio and superb damping characteristics.

The RF-83's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound and three rear-firing ports to eliminate turbulence noise. Increased baffle ribbing in the lower panel and around the horn mouth dramatically improve acoustics across the sonic range. For signal purity and perfect driver integration, the crossover on the RF-83 features the finest components and Klipsch custom internal wiring. Premium binding posts ensure superior connectivity.

Available in either a cherry or black real wood veneer finish, the RF-83 comes with a knife-edge back and low-diffraction, magnetically attached grille to further accentuate the elegance of this speaker.

Reviews

" ... in stereo, I was taken aback by their wide-open soundstaging. These big speakers seemed to totally disappear, without so much as a hint of boxy coloration that some audiophiles still believe to be an inherent coloration of horn speakers. The References will change a lot of minds on that score."
- Steve Guttenberg, Home Theater [10/1/2007]

"The Reference speakers are all extremely efficient, so they can make a big sound even with a low-powered A/V receiver (50 watts would do in many rooms), and they'll still accommodate powerhouse amps as well."
- Steve Guttenberg, Home Theater [10/1/2007]

"... even without the sub, the RF-83's low-end slam was superlative--deep, tight, and nimble as they come."
- Steve Guttenberg, Home Theater [10/1/2007]

"... all of my DVDs with the more explosive soundtracks had the exhilarating impact I've heard in the best movie theaters."
- Steve Guttenberg, Home Theater [10/1/2007]

“I quickly found that the RF-83 is a lot of speaker. It throws a broad, highly detailed soundstage that’s remarkably consistent both horizontally and vertically.”
- Daniel Kumin, Sound & Vision [11/1/2006]

“… the RF-83s proved impressively consistent within their wide and unusually tall coverage area.”
